On September 6, 2024, Army Chief of Pakistan General Asim Munir said something very important in his Defense Day speech. He revealed that the military was indeed a part of the Kargil War between the two nations in 1999. He spoke about the sacrifices of Pakistani soldiers, especially from the Northern Light Infantry, who participated in that war. Munir felt honored, respected, and committed to these brave soldiers who laid down their lives. This is a marked difference from previous stories, since Pakistan has often denied any direct involvement in that war.

The Kargil War was a high-altitude conflict between India and Pakistan during the months of May to July 1999. In this war, Pakistani soldiers played the role of intruders, who crossed the Line of Control (LoC), and entered Indian territory, capturing strategic locations in the Kargil region of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian forces therefore undertook Operation Vijay to re-throng those features. The country regained all its posts after numerous battles, with Pakistan compelled under international pressure to withdraw its troops. Many hundreds of soldiers were thus killed on both sides as a result of this war.
कारगिल युद्ध मई से जुलाई 1999 के महीनो के दौरान भारत और पाकिस्तान के बिच एक उचाई वाला संगर्ष था . इस युद्ध में , पाकिस्तानी सैनिको ने घुसपैठ किया था . जिन्होंने बॉर्डर रेखा को पर करके भारत में प्रवेश किया , जम्मू और कश्मीर के कारगिल छेत्र में महत्वपूर्ण स्तनों पर कब्ज़ा कर लिया . इस लिए भारतीय सेना को उन स्थानों को वापस पाने के लिए ऑपरेशन विजय चलना पढ़ा। इस लड़ाई में भारतीय सेना ने विजय हासिल किया और पाकिस्तानी सैनिको को वापस भागना पड़ा . युद्ध में दोनों देसो के सैनिक सहीद हुए ,
There have also been numerous complaints by the leadership of Pakistan in the past over the role of the army in Kargil while feigning that operations were led by “freedom fighters.” The army has denied its presence since independence. However, General Munir changed this by saying they were “directly responsible.” He lauded General Munir through his speech and stated that the brave men who faced violence during war deserved to be treated with respect, adding that he valued their contribution, which was a long-time controversy between New Delhi and Islamabad in the diplomatic talk corridor (IANS 2010).
भारत ने कारगिल युद्ध में पाकिस्तान सेना की भूमिका को लेकर पहले भी कई बार कहता आया है , लेकि हमेशा पाकिस्तान इंकार करता रहा है . हलाकि जनरल मुनीर ने यह कहकर इसे बदल दिया की वे सीधे तोर पर जिमेवार थे , मुनीर ने जोर देकर कहा की पाकिस्तान के सभी अपने राजनीती दलों पर इतना दयँ केंद्रित करने से बचना चाहिए और इसके बजाय देश को मजबूत बनाबे के लिए एक साथ आना चाहिए .
Munir stressed that everyone in Pakistan needs to stop being so focused on their political parties and instead should come together to make the country strong.
He expressed that there is a need to be united, more so when considering that Pakistan is currently facing serious political and economic turmoil. A lot of his speech was dedicated to how big is the bond between America’s army and its citizens, making the latter a supporting structure in uneasy or unpredictable times. It could also be that the revelation on the involvement of Pakistan in the Kargil War is part of a more open and responsible broader scheme by the military leaders.
By confessing to what was previously done, Munir might be striving to build up public trust in order to relate the goals of the army with those of the nation. Additionally, this comes at a time when Pakistan has fallen prey to internal divisions and external pressure, especially on its relations with India. General Munir has called for unity, and it is acceptable to put into account the Kargil battle where everything or approached him through here in courage and valor so as to show that the strength of a country is drawn from facing its challenges together.
